Title: ABS ECU Location and fix (2002 PFL UK)
Post by: Lord SanDisk on March 28, 2017, 10:52
I've tried searching but can't find what I'm looking for.

I've had my ABS light on for a while, my car has a Volvo T5 in the back but it was working fine with the engine swap - I'm thinking the ECU is done for (the light is constantly on)

My two questions are:

1) Where is the ABS ECU?
2) Does the brake system need a Vac line to it form the engine? or is it a fully self sufficient system?

Apologies if these seem like dumb questions, I did catch the wires on the off-side rear when doing some tidying up (snapped the wires off the sensor) but I have replaced the wiring, however the ABS light still stays on (Which is making me think it's the ECU)

Cheers for any help!

You can read the codes..  short a couple of pins from the obd2 and it blinks it out... forgive me for being lazy and not hunting it down for you..

Also be aware it wont self reset once repaired until you drive the car.

The ABS ecu is attached to the abs block , which is purely electro-mechanical as the pump is also attached.
I'd test the sensors from the abs connector before swapping anything. jack the wheel and spin it to test for ac generation on the corresponding wires.

Theres an ecu up under the dash behind the obd2 port (ish).

The OBD2 port has been wired to my T5 engine ECU instead.

I'll check near the OBD2 port and see where to ECU is and swap it over.

I'll also double check the ABS sensor is giving me a reading.

Cheers!
