Whenever I turn ignition on to get all the dashboard lights showing, I always wait a second or two before I crank the engine over. Now in Chilli, there used to be a very faint almost like circuit noise or something for that second or two before the majority of lights go out before cranking her. Now in Foxy, she is totally silent, no noise, same lights obviously. Am I being paranoid, but as Foxy has eaten up a new battery in the last 12 months, I was just wondering if something isn't working as it should? I've been using her daily for last 2 weeks and no problems starting at all, no idle issues, runs really well. Just wondering if I decide to put her away for a week, she may not start? Is it worth having her alternator checked perhaps? Just clutching at straws really or am I worrying about nothing!
Pretty sure i get the noise you are talking about.
No idea what it is.
IIRC there was " talk" on here about a non problematic noise from the steering pump with ignition on.
If you leave the car for a week with a good battery it should be OK, it will be powering the alarm only.
If left for a longer ? period the battery will drain.
If outside best left with alarm on and you will be happier in that respect, if in a garage I would disconnect battery then no drain.
Worst that will happen is emu will reset.
So when I moved my friends 10 yr Honda Civic off the drive in the morning, hers makes that slight circuit noise too for a couple of seconds on ignition turn before engine starts. Why dont I get it with Foxy? I just dont understand it. If you could all try it in your 2 & let me know if yours has the noise or not, I may get an answer. s:D :D s:D
Mine makes a low sound. It could be a pump priming - fuel or steering - maybe its a motor for a previous radio aerial? I hasten to add these are purely guesses and have no scientific basis!
My battery is by no means new and has to kick up a larger engine, but since it is used daily, I can tell you if doesn't ever run down. I hope you find out what noise you are missing!
Its unusual to be concerned about not hearing a noise rather than the other way around, I know but if I hadnt had Chilli beforehand & knowing/comparing her characteristics I'd probably not be posting this thread about it! Just curious, anyway thanks for reply. Anymore out there, perhaps on steering pump, etc??
Just a few clicking relays on mine.
The noise is typically the fuel pump priming, as mentioned above.
I do not know why it is not making the noise now - but if its quickly starting as soon as you turn the key, then there's nothing to worry about with regards to fuel priming.
...or maybe the CD drive with a CD in...

Haha. I know exactly the noise you mean. And it's frighteningly similar to the noise of the fuel pump priming.
As above, no idea why you're not hearing it now. Maybe it was replaced for a quiet one? s:) :) s:)
