Title: Foxy's Headlights.
Post by: Chilli Girl on April 20, 2017, 21:21
Last year I used Meguiers polish and sealant with an electric headlight buffer.  The results were pretty good afterwards but I've noticed that they've discoloured again already this year which is a little disappointing as it has been garaged away from the rays for quite some time.  Other than replace them which I can't really afford to do at the moment.  I've seen a lot worse on other 2's but it seems that the tops of the light unit is the worst.   s:( :( s:(

I'm afraid it's the nature of the beast - Once you start to recondition the headlight arrays it becomes a constant chore to maintain the clear look!!

Yeah unfortunately they become another regular maintenance item, they recommend you apply the UV sealant regularly to stop them yellowing again.

Don't attempt any remedy until they are fully clouded - Otherwise you are on a hiding to nothing!!

That's a good tip actually. I guess there's a protective coating from factory that you're polishing off

Yes I use it on a lot of stuff that needs UV protection, it was recommended to me for dry suit seals as they are very VU unstable, and others use it for canoes that are outside in the sun for long periods. There is not much to see, the liquid is a very thin milky coloured stuff that takes seconds to rub on. Spray it on and rub it over the headlights. It does need regular reapplication, every few weeks. If I forget, the headlights go a bit yellow, but 10 minutes rubbing with caravan window scratch remover and back to good.
