Title: Anyone looking for a remote transponder?
Post by: smarty72 on April 25, 2017, 14:54
Just received successfully paired a replacement key fob purchased via a well known auction site.

The seller appears to have several other identical looking transponders if anyone is looking for one at the moment.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link but can post or PM item no's if anyone wants one.

Hi Smarty,

I'm having immobiliser problems with mine so I wonder if I got a new key fob it might stop the issue. How do you do the programming so the immobiliser recognises the new fob ? Could you send me the link so I can see it on ebay ?

thanks

StuC - thanks for the link - I'll give that ago.

Smarty - If you could PM me with a suggestion of where to look for a decent replacement key that would be most appreciated !

Right, I know it's a year later but I finally fixed this !

Well, if you can call spending £500 at your local Toyota dealer 'fixing' it.

Turns out that there is an amplifier on the ignition barrel that sends the signal to the immobiliser. Mine wasn't amplifying enough. One new one later and she starts first time every time ! Red LED goes out even when the key goes anywhere near the barrel so must be pumping out 1000watts of amplified power !

Still, I know it cost a lot but the first drive after waiting all this time was worth EVERY penny ! Reminded myself why these cars are so special !

So, I'm not sure if you can do this as a DIY using a a scrap car amplifier but I hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

Well done on getting back on the road.

however... just to assist others with the same problem:   The amplifier does not read or carry codes.  It is just an interface between the chip in the key and the ECU (which does the code reading).  So a working used one from a friendly breaker will do the job.
