Has anyone fitted a free air sub under the dash? Would it work?

I want to fit a sub, but don't want to lose any space and I don't want to fork out for one of those expensive UD sub boxes! (p.s - has anyone made a cheaper alternative yet?)

I'm making a fibre glass version for my sub 8" sub plus a 8" 3way pioneer
Though its bye bye to the bins behind the seats.
