Title: What's this valve ?
Post by: ilovejapcrap on May 28, 2017, 18:49
Blue valve

its attached to inlet manifold rubber tube to stop it moving about but is not part of that.

The hose from it goes to a plastic box think it's a charcoal type filter thing ? Thanks

It opens "whenever"to draw air(and petrol vapour) from the charcoal canister.
The canister is the vent for the fuel tank iirc.
just another pollution control thing.

Does this then go into inlet manifold then ?

My mechanic thinks my car is running rich causing a little white smoke.

So I'm looking for air leaks etc

It goes to the inlet manifold just past the throttle body.  White 'smoke' is generally water vapour.  Sooty black is rich.  You can also smell 'rich'.

It has white smoke and does seem to drop a lot of water, if that's normal ?

It also has black on hard acceleration and has a slight fuel wiff

He is not convinced it's oil he's a dime to it's running rich on fuel so that's what I'm trying to fathom out.

Oil is blue.....  not oil.  Water vapour on when cold is normal, but it should go away quickly at this time of year.  It does sound as though it's rich.  If you've been through the injectors, that leaves sensors... maf and O2.  Maf will not throw a code, O2 will.  I think I asked you before - have you changed the air filter???  Have your mechanic check the fuel pressure.

Fully synth oil burned in sufficient quantities through a cat gives copious quantities of WHITE smoke especially once the cat gets warm. It also smells at little like unburnt fuel.

Surely if he's a professional mechanic he will have used his wide-band O2 sensor on the exhaust to confirm it's running rich?

He is fully qualified but has just popped around mine for a quick look.

Not as yet had on scanner etc
