Title: UK aftermarket parts suppliers?
Post by: m1tch on June 7, 2017, 07:59
Hi all,

Really quick question on this, it seems that there are a lot of parts over in the states (eg MWR) for our car but there doesn't seem to be a huge amount in the UK, are there any UK equivalents for MWR at all or do people usually just buy from the states and pay the shipping and customs duty etc?

The car has a decat dowpipe, stock main cat and a TTE rear box, was looking at where I could get something different eg a single exit, I have a feeling I might need to go custom for it as there doesn't seem to be that much out there.

Suspension parts seem to be ok to find, was just wondering where best to source some of the engine and exhaust parts in the UK?

There's no one-stop shop unfortunately.

So it's a case of hunting around. Affiliates GT4-play and TCB can deliver a fair bit of kit. Then there's Zero and PPE for top-spec exhausts. Rogue Motorsports sell a lot of mr2 parts.

A one-stop shop would be amazing! But the car is getting on now so the market isn't quite there.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I plan to keep the car very long term so will be looking to also stockpile a few service items as well whilst I can, I think I might just go with a custom exhaust in the future, will see how I get on with the TTE exhaust, its not a going to be a daily drive but on the other hand I don't really want to be deafened for only a couple bhp gain in power.

Also, how much is the MWR customs duty usually come to?

If you're staying N/A then I personally don't think there's a better exhaust than the TTE.

Agreed.

Customs charge 20% vat plus whatever % of duty plus handling fee.
25% maybe.
Some people get away with it.

That's good to know, will be staying NA for a bit but will look to do a 2zz swap in the future and then perhaps forced induction after that (current 1zz engine is high mileage).

Just a note mitch if your TTE exhaust is noisy and it is second hand to you, so you don't know its history. I would get it checked out. I had to have mine openned up the pipes inside repaired and then repacked.
I can not believe the difference. I have the noise but my ears don't ring when i have done motorway speeds anymore  s:D :D s:D

Thanks for that, the car is high mileage and I don't know how long the TTE exhaust has been on there, it also has the TTE Banana spoiler as well so they might be from new (am I correct to say that the TTE parts are OEM optional extra parts?) - guessing that the packing might be burnt out, I am collecting the car this Saturday so will see what the exhaust is like. I don't mind a bit of noise, just don't want drone on the motorway (although 6 speed box would drop the RPMs at motorway speed), will see how it goes. It won't be a daily driver but I just don't want to be 'that guy' down the street that has a loud exhaust - usually go for subtle mods.

Yeah your right the TTE was an optional extra from the dealer. Remus made the backbox but stamped the tips TTE on the exhaust. Good luck with picking it up at weekend.

Many thanks, I will be going over the car this weekend and checking everything over before deciding next steps and any parts I need, currently a few cosmetic bits but I am sure there will be other performance parts on the cards soon.
