Title: Font Brake Noise
Post by: Peterj on June 17, 2017, 19:13
Took the car out earlier and after a short time a horrible screeching noise developed from the front drivers side?

Everything works as it should, when breaking to a halt the noise disappears and in reverse there is no noise at all.

Thought the caliper might have seized but no smells or unusual heat around the hub.

It sounds like something is jammed beween the wheel and hub but I can't see anything.

Any suggestions what it might be woyuld be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

Brake pad wear 'indicator' is a piece of spring steel that rubs on disk and makes a god-awful noise when the pads get low.

Have you taken the wheel off and had a look?

Possibly stone trapped on top of brake pad?

Or the sliders in the brake mech are seizing

Thanks gents,
I will get a set of pads anyway, give everything a good clean and grease the sliders.

Typical lovely weather for getting the roof down and I'm stuck in the garage!

If it is the wear indicator, bend it back from the disc.  Do the brake job later. ??
Seriously, though; do both sides.

Had another look earlier and gave the caliper a good spray of brake cleaner, let it rest and then pushed the car the noise disappeared.

Took the car for a spin and gladly the noise has gone, looks like some crud trapped somewhere will take the wheels off and give the brakes a check and some TLC.
