Title: Induction sound
Post by: Light on June 19, 2017, 01:51
Is it possible to get induction sound from merely swapping the air filter for a different one? I'm at the age where buying an intake kit would be prohibitively expensive to insure, so just looking to change things I can get away with.

Sadly no, but if you're after some intake roar on full throttle, you can temporarily remove the pipe behind the nearside rear light that connects to the airbox.

It will suck in more warm air (the pipe directs air from behind the battery to the air box), but it will give you a lovely roar  s:) :) s:)  Filtration still intact so no worries there.

And, it's not a modification. The pipe sometimes falls off.......  s:) :) s:)

There are actually 2 things you can do which will give you slightly more.
Firstly, the K&N panel filter is slightly throatier than the standard toyota one.

Secondly, a MarkIII pipe. Whilst it's a mod (I guess?) you could argue that you're replacing an absolutely rubbish plastic pipe that doesn't always fit properly with a metal equivalent that does.

Thanks for you help guys, I'll take all your input on board. I am struggling to locate a Markiii pipe, any good vendors you know about? Or is there a DIY solution? I saw a picture of a DIY one a while back, not sure where or how to do it.

You could always make the noises yourself - it's free, doesn't lose any horses and you can have whatever induction and exhaust noises suit your mood.
It's got a lot going for it [emoji106]

tis true that Jon.
The GT and GTi range from Peugeot have a system that makes the car sound proper mean, but uses the speakers   s:lol:  s:lol:
Honestly, when you're in the car and you hit the "Sport" button, it sounds so noisy in the car, you think you'll be  spiss piss spiss ing the neighbours off!
I had one of these recently

I'd argue though, that the 2 above i mentioned - the K&N panel and the Markiii pipe don't lose any power. The K&N reckon they give up to 4hp extra (that's almost certainly BS)
We've spoken about different induction mods before. Everything I tried, whilst it sounded great, suffered from heat soak and poor ventilation. Strangely, the stock box is a good design.

If Toyota did this for their cars they should do Lexus LFA noises...One of the wonders of the modern world the noise that car makes
