Title: Roll hoop
Post by: m1tch on June 23, 2017, 07:55
Hi all,

At some point I am going to be looking into getting a roll hoop installed due to the car having no roof, is there a usual brand or maker that people usually go with or is it usually custom? I would be looking to get a roll hoop with rear stays rather than a full cage.

Couple of points to note is the car will be a road car, and will have a hard top only fitted - will be removing the soft top.

Custom cages do a half cage that fits with hard top and no soft top

Hmm thanks for that, will take a look, really just want a half cage as I will be running with stock belts rather than harnesses etc.

Just be aware that all the style bars etc available are just that: The fixings are in no way adequate to protect against a roll over. You need a half cage if that's what you're after.

Yep. keeping away from the 'style bars' which might actually kill you if they bend the wrong way in a rollover, will be looking at a half cage - do I need to run harnesses with a half cage? There wouldn't be any pipework infront or to the side of me?

The soft top is part of the mounting for seat belts, unless you cut the frame up when you remove the top

I'd be tempted to get a full cage but with mounts for the standard hardnesses included. In my track car it's the harnesses that make it impractical, not the door bars, and I'm due the stiffness improvement would be amazing. Just throwing it out there!

Wouldn't I then have to run the harnesses 100% of the time with a full cage?

The inertia reel just has an M10 or whatever size bolt holding it in place, I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to include in the cage...
