My car currently has no LSD(2zz swap) but I have the original gearbox.
I would like to pull the LSD out so I can throw the rest away (storage is tight) what do I need to keep so I can swap the LSD in later??
You crack open the drive side of the gearbox and pull out the diff. I think there might be some shims/bearings that you might find handy too.
Can you mount it that way too?
How do you measure the preload on the bearings with everything inside the box?
Here's a guide I've followed

great, thanks
Sorry I'm late to this party guys. Don't attempt this guide as it's a quick install without setting the pre-load on the differential bearings. I'll dig out the procedure I used which describes how to set the pre-load.
I pulled the lsd out and threw the rest away, will swap in the lsd at some point so a guide would be handy

Is it a C64 box? If so I am interested in it.
I have swapped a few in different Toyota boxes, never had any problems swapping the bearings over from the old diff onto the lsd. It takes a small set of pullers and you may need to grind the legs a little to get them in there, but if you take care it will be fine.
Preload is a nightmare to check without the special tool to torque the diff from the inside, like I say, 4 Toyota boxes done without checking it and no issues.

All it takes is one time. Then it can cause some serious issues. There is a way to check without the special tool, as long as you're handy with a torque wrench
