Title: Maximum wheel offset?
Post by: Gaz mr-s on June 26, 2017, 22:51
I'm thinking of changing wheels. I would be staying with stock 15 front & 16 rear, but restricting to the std 45 offset limits choices. How low an offset can be fitted with a 185/55 15 tyre without getting arch-fouling, & is it ok to 'go' to that maximum?

I just went et35 with 195 tyres so, you'll be fine  s:) :) s:)  Especially on 185 tyres. Means you'll need to find some 6 or 6.5in wheels preferably for 185

Rear is a bit different. Et38 scrapes on 225 on lowered cars.
But if you're on stock 215 et38 should be fine and your limit. Even at 7in wide.
Hope that increases your scope a bit.

I hope you don't mind me hijacking slightly (if is easiest i can start a new thread) I'm looking to use 205/45/16 on 16x8 ET38 all round and so if anyone can give guidance on how well this will fit (happy to so a bit of arch tickling)  that'd be really appreciated!

I thought the minimum width for a 8j wheel was 215.

That's what is currently fitted to the set I'm looking at, looks fine and within manufacturer recommendations apparently.

Always found this a handy ref tool.
Saved from here some time ago.

yup a 205 will be a bit stretched. whether this is safe or not is a bit open to opinion but personally i dont like stretched tyres

Cheers chaps, I'm not worried about the slight stretch, I've seen plenty of cars running this sort of setup and most people wouldn't even notice (stance boys claim "that's not even a stretch"). It's really the wheels that I'm interested in and I'll run the tyres they come with until I either stagger the setup to 15/16 or 16/17 depending on how it all sits, and then sell the other matched set.
