Title: Running without MAF
Post by: m1tch on June 27, 2017, 13:19
Hi all,

I tried something yesterday whilst doing a compression test, I unplugged the MAF, am I correct to say that the unplugged MAF would mean that the engine is running on a fixed map in terms of fueling at certain RPM etc - does this engine have a MAP sensor somewhere as the engine was idling and revving up fine on the drive?

Was just thinking that if the engine runs ok without the MAF it could be easier to run a less restrictive intake setup, although I am guessing its simply dropping back to a safe fixed rich map to get you home if the MAF fails?

No map. You'll want that maf in haha if you're using the stock ECU.
The open/closed loop has more to do with the water temp, rpm, tps and O2 sensors than the MAF.
So unless you're removing all of those as well....

Also, the MAF code may present itself after a few cycles of engine starts and drives.
