Hi all,
If someone were to replace a rear quarter panel (passenger side) in sable with one of the same colour - used but more than likely the finish may not be the same. How much work is it to get the finish/shade of the replacement panel to match?
Is it usually a body shop job or easier than that...
Cheers,
You might get lucky with a panel from a breaker being a good enough match, depends how fussy/ how keen your eye Is.
To have it painted you would have to have the replacement panel painted sable and the door that meets it half painted in sable and then the two panels clear coated together. The join to the engine cover panel won't show cos of the angles throwing the eye and the bumper painted at the factory is a different colour anyway and I bet you've never noticed that! So to summarise, rear quarter and door coloured and clear coated, probably something like £350 as a guide price if the rear quarter is already sable and you've fitted it and no filler required before paint.
I replaced 2002 panels with 2006 ones and the match is pretty much spot on. It's lucky that the panel lines match breaks in form of the shape, so slight shade differences are masked.

Have to admit - never noticed!
Sounds like it may not be too problematic, but expensive if it doesnt match.
I think you would be unlucky to need a repaint for a match on a sable panel. Perhaps red ones with paint fade might be another proposition?

Although red 3PO are supposedly all the same there were 3 shades to pick from when I had my quarter panel painted/blended into door, engine lid, rear bumper and mirrors done (£350),In the end the body shop guy got the paint supplier to match it from the car with the computerised spectrometer system.
