Title: SMT pump noise
Post by: The Don of Croy on August 8, 2017, 16:16
Since the spring my SMT pump has emitted a high pitched whine upon first priming (after opening driver's door).

The noise has gotten a little deeper now, but the actual system is working fine - and no fault codes/EML light.

Likely cause - low fluid? Worn out bearing/pump? It doesn't seem to be as noisy in use (although it's difficult to hear much over the engine anyways).

Any further advice willingly sought - I can probably upload a recording if necessary.

Toyota Tunbridge Wells are quoting £85 for a litre can, although the parts manager had never ordered it (in 15 years)...

Thanks, but it doesn't say much about noises...any ideas?

I suggest you send a private message to cyclehead, as he seems to have the expertise on the SMT.

Well, a quick top up of fluid and it's back to the usual priming noise.

Result!

Anyone want to buy a 90% full tin of Toyota SMT fluid?
