Title: Sound deadening.
Post by: Carolyn on August 13, 2017, 17:38
I finally got round to pulling the bins and applying strips of deadening material to the sheet metal.  I got in behind the carpet on the vertical bit behind the seats and put some strips on there too.  Made a massive improvement.  The cab is much quieter.

I'd been putting the job off, because of the apparent need to remove seats, carpet, trim pieces and console to do the complete job.  Then it occurred to me that I could do the floor-pan by attaching the material to the underside.

I'm going to give the underside a good clean, attach the material in strategic locations, and seal the edges with Tigerseal.  I don't think the floor will know which side it's being deadened from.

Sounds like a good idea, what are you using as the sound deadening material?

All on the underside.  Happy with the improvement.

Just ordered the same stuff. I've been meaning to get some sound deadening done for a while. This seems the cheapest and if it has the 'Carolyn seal of approval' them I'm happy with that

Planning on doing the doors too - will see if it needs upgraded speakers after

I have just spotted this sound deadening is down to less than £8 on ebay with free postage. Looks like a bargain to me - get in quick before it goes back up again

I found that when I removed the carpet from behind the seats there is a fair amount of extra engine noise - I think focusing on that area might yield a good improvement. I also think there are some spray on sound deadening products for under the car as well. I also noticed a large drop in noise with the hard top fitted.
