Quick question. I have adjusted my sof top latches to the maximum, to take all the play out, however they are still very loose when I close the top. There are no leaks at all, however the only thing that prevents the latches from opening is the fact that the sunvisors are folded up blocking the movement of the latches. Any idea what I should do now to make the latches lock properly and also be tight.
You shouldn't overtighten them, I think that will ruin the strip in the long run s:? :? s:?
I remember when I was testing those, that when I tightened them too much, I couldn't fully close the latches, but they were left a bit loose. So how about trying to loosen them a bit and see how it turns out?

They should lock closed and need to have the button pressed to release them. Maybe this is what Tem is getting at - perhaps they are too tight and so don't lock. I'd say if no leaks, tight enough.
I adjusted mine yesterday because everytime I went over a bump, the 'wonderful' little things rattled. s:x :x s:x
If you over tighten them, it is possible to damage the roof. The correct way to do it is to tighten them up by turning the retracting nut little by little until you can't do up the latch anymore. But if the latch won't click into place with little effort DON'T FORCE IT! Once you can't latch it together anymore, back it off a little (maybe a 1/4 of a turn). If you've done it right, I should click and lock into place. Never force anything. It's always an expensive mistake. s:wink:  s:wink:
Thankyou all for your replies, you are all correct unfortunately in this country the roads are so bad, I kept tightening every month or so, then I used some pieces of rubber to take up remaining slack, now the locking mechanism has stretched and the little button is of no use as there is sufficient space between this and the lever. Will have to get two locks from somewhere.
Hope nobody else makes this mistake.
Thanks
