The dreaded engine management light came on again last week after some spirited driving . Later back home and armed with my OBD i found code PO136 again! This is the post cat and as i had just recently fitted a new Denso universal one I thought on no not again after 3 months?
As my other two sensors are also Denso universal and these have been on years with no problems i did think i should dig a little deeper before ordering a new sensor
First call was to check the wiring and plug to the sensor and everything was fine next was to clear the code and see how long it lasts and now a week later it has not reappeared?
What could have caused the error? then i thought what Tom owen pointed out to me a few weeks ago while out on the Northumberland run that i had a small exhaust leak from one of the gaskets from the three amigos. been too busy to sort but it could be that as i did remember a small burbling back fire noise from my Fox twin exhaust at the time?
So before you buy a new sensor clear the code 1st as it may a leak in the exhaust that is causing the error and i also must get round to that leak soon!
Good shout.
The thing is, the o2 sensors barely ever break. It's the heater circuits that break.
When an o2 code pops up, it's time for full diagnosis because as you noticed, there may be another cause.
