Title: Transaxle gasket
Post by: ellieG on September 13, 2017, 16:36
Hi - has anyone any experience in renewing transaxle gasket? Have a small seepage and want to sort it before it becomes a major issue. Is  this a job that can be accomplished with good tool kit but no ramp or inspection pit or is it a case of Mr T and biting the bullet?

There are alternatives to Mr T maybe convenient to you, let us know where you are and those in the know will be able to advise.

not so sure of 'tranaxle', but the gearbox halves use sealant rather than gasket.
assuming you mean the gearbox halves then its a doable DIY job , but not a nice one.
will need to have a big clean bench to work on.
hardest part removing the gearbox I'd guess.

There's quite a posse of our members in your area.  With a bit of luck, you might get someone to take a peek for you.

Do you know where the oil is coming from?  Is it around where the driveshafts attach, or towards the clutch, or in the middle of the housing?

It will help a lot if you can pin down the location of the leak.  Might even be a loose filler plug??

I'm guessing we're talking about the driveshaft gaskets into the gearbox. If so, yes it can be done on ramps/jacks but does require you to either move some suspension parts out of the way or remove the wheel hub. And drain and refill the gearbox fluid.
Maybe 1.5hrs from wheels on ground to wheels on ground.
