Title: Storage compartment side panels
Post by: poprock on September 26, 2017, 16:12
This is a pretty basic question, but I can't quite seem to find the right search terms to bring up an answer ...

In the storage/luggage space behind the seats, there are plastic moulded side panels that clip into place. On the driver's side it's this side panel you remove to clip the hardtop rear window heater in and out.

My driver's side panel isn't clipped in – there's no clips. So I want to buy some new clips.

Are these (http://www.vehicleclips.co.uk/toyota-plastic-rivet-trim-clip-mr2-luggage-compartment-frunk-clips.html) the things I'm looking for?

Are there any alternatives available that might be easier to clip and unclip every time I put the hardtop on and off?

(I tried just using sticky-backed Velcro but it falls off. Isn't strong enough for the job.)

I know exactly what you need and unfortunately those are not the right clips. The correct clips have a little knob on the end that you pull out to release them. Probably only available from Toyota or maybe one of the specialist breakers.

The clips you have found are those that hold the panel in place under the bonnet around the spare wheel box.

AFA [165 Pcs] Clips - Most Popular Sizes & Applications - Free Fastener Remover  m https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MR4MNEU/ ... Yzb24QBW4R (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MR4MNEU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_oGNYzb24QBW4R) m
I got this set, I'm fairly confident they're in it but would be worth double checking the sizes. I've made use of the others regardless.

Not saying that that isn't a useful set but I don't think that the clips that Poprock wants are in that set.

Yeah, like I said I can't remember the size of the push/pulls that hold the end panels in. Mine have 2 different types as well which doesn't help, it's a while since I had them out.

Heres a picture of one of the clips in the open position.

In the closed position it only moves in about 2mm so doesnt close flush like they usually do so you can grip it with your fingers.

I suspect Mikey is right and its main dealer or breaker.

No harm in running without the 2 plastic panels there as their purpose is just to stop you overfilling the bins and then trying to put the roof down.

I've been having a look into this (yes I know I'm sad) and as far as I can make out they are only available with the side covers  s:( :( s:(   So a specialist breaker it is then.

The photo there is really helpful, thanks.

I think I'll go with some velcro cable ties for now – and hunt around breakers for the proper clips.

(The passenger side doesn't have the proper clips either – there are more permanent ones holding that on ...)

Will see if mine function ok, the whole set of rear plastics are in the garage not to be fitted again.
