Title: Real World Unichip Performance Run
Post by: Anonymous on February 20, 2005, 12:51
On the way back from Boxhill yesterday i was sat next to LeeUK at some traffic lights on the M25 Slip Road.

Lee has the apexi, H&S, B&M, PPE Racing Cat and PPE Manifold.

I have the unichip and TTE.

Lights went green, was neck and neck until about 15mph and then i just went past him like he wasn't there.

He was tryin because we'd pre-arranged it and spoke to him after to confirm.

The car just kept pulling and pulling away, he wasn't best pleased lol, but his chip arrives soon!

For a minute I though of Apexi PFC, but after checking his signature, I suppose you mean the intake?

Ah, but Lee's never been the quickest of drivers...   s:wink:  s:wink:

Only kidding mate. Hell, your car's definately gotta be quicker than mine with all those mods!

Good little test there between the two of you. Almost makes me want a Unichip now...!

Bigun, when are you next in Hull? Presumably you go on the M18 past J4? That's where I live and I would like to re-inact this 'drag race' to see if my car does indeed have more than what was quoted when the chip was mapped....

You up for it?  s:wink:  s:wink:

Had a good run on Sunday and it feels a lot smoother, I have been running on ultimate the last three tank fulls and returned 35 to the gallon so it will be interesting to see what the return is, post chip (http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)

So, bog standard motor with a pre-mapped chip against slightly modded with pre-mapped chip plus a modded with mapped chip.(http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_1.gif)

I haven't heard from DP yet but i am sure it will.

Altho it might be wise to wait until its a bit warmer and drier?

I'll call tonight/tomorrow night to arrange something for the weekend. So long as it's dry it will be a fair comparison. If my video camera has arrived from HK I'll bring that.

Actually... now that I'm thinking of it, are you on MSN James? Both Les and myself are. It would be a good way of arranging things.

Just to let every1 know we are meeting at 9AM on Saturday at the Humber Bridge Viewing area.

We are taking video camera's and the G-Tech, hopefully we'll get some cool footage for you, both from Les's camera and maybe DP's new camera if it arrives in time.

We'll post some results when we have them.

Well we are back - boy was that an early start!!

I met Les just outside the City centre and we convoyed to the meeting spot where we met DarthPaul and his blinding car. Loved it, the spats make it look so much more aggressive.

They set cameras etc up and off we went towards the Humber Bridge. After crossing the bridge we set off down the dual carriageway (A15) until we come to the first layby.

We had already come to the conclusion at this point that i was gaining on Les and DP was falling back altho only slightly.

Les and I were both running MapA (for the pre-mapped users).

We decided i would go first as i was the quickest, followed by Les and DP with the forward facing cam at the back.

We drove "spiritedly" at various speeds and there was not a lot of difference in things.

DP was slower but we think its the increased RR of the wheels making the difference. Les was next but that might have been due to the gearing ratio difference on the Pre Facelift?

Then we went around the roundabout at the Junction for the M18 and pulled over ready for the next run, we set off in the same order.

Off we go, i make it into second gear and the car decides its going to lose traction :S anyway i get traction and try to catch DP.....3rd gear and NO power :S

Power returned and i catch them intime for the 3rd run.

We are doing thee 3rd run and the same happened again in 3rd gear.

We make it to breakfast and we look at tape etc, very interesting to see just how quickly i was pulling away from Les.

I then decide i am going to run MapB - it did feel significantly quicker but traffic meant i couldn't benchmark it. Once more over the bridge, a quick goodbye and that was the end.

Was a good time and was very nice to meet DP and Les.

Hopefully they'll post some video's and pics shortly!

One thing i did notice is that MapB DRINKS petrol :S - after we said goodbye i changed back to MapA and tested it, it was fine so maybe the problem was stemming from the 95 RON i put in yesterday and the ECU trying to accomodate it at WOT
