Title: Ipod mini - cassette converter
Post by: Anonymous on February 20, 2005, 21:19
Hi all,

been having a look through related topics but cant quite find the answer to my question..

Having just bought an ipod mini, i was hoping to play it in my mr2 (2001 reg with Sony h/u) - i have an old cassette converter i used to use with a portable cd player.  This works in other cars / head units but i cant get it to play in my mr2!!   s:evil:  s:evil:

The tape player works fine with normal cassettes - just not this converter.  I know quite a few people are using converters and was wondering if these are the official ones for the ipod or just regular ones.

Any ideas would be useful - id rather hard wire it but still looking for the converters id need to buy!

I'm selling a Sony XA-300 which gives you line-in capability on any Sony S-Bus equipped HU (the stock HU is one) - http://www.mr2roc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5611&highlight=

This doesnt provide any remote control to the iPod - it just gives you line-in.

thanks, looks like the answer but seems a bit excessive - especially as its only for one device.

is this the converter that it required or are there others available do you know?

Title: Ipod dock

Personally, I have gone for an ipod cardock from podgear. It plugs into the fag lighter, sits perfectly (and i do mean perfectly for my roadster) out of the way from the gear stick and allows you to view the screen of the ipod. Not only does it charge your ipod (dock available for all 3rd generation/4th generation ipod's & mini's), it also plays them through your speakers via an FM signal. I have mine preset on station 10 to 88.10 and it is as crystal sounding as my CD player. For £50 nicker including P & P around christmas time i'm well happy. (You can also get one for about 25 quid which doesn't give the FM signal).I will take a picture on the digi tom and post it for ya.

I kelkoo'd for the cheapest dock and here you go:

What do you reckon?

Sounds like a great addition for £50. Just ordered my lad a mini Ipod so may get one of these so I can borrow it now  s:wink:  s:wink:

i went for something a bit cheaper.
a belkin cassette converter 8 quid off ebay.
an in car charger 9 quid ebay and a leather dash mounted holder 9 quid, surprising enough also of ebay.
mounted the holder just to the left of the steering wheel and ran the cassette wire behind the stereo housing and instrument cowling so there are hardly any wires on show.
really pleased with the results but i dont think i will use the car charger as the battery life is more than enough for the distances i travel.
