Title: Wheels and tires
Post by: michaelb on November 18, 2017, 15:52
I just noticed my 2005 mr2 has 15" wheels all round with 185/50 R15 tires on the front and 205/50 R15 on the back. Someone at some point must have changed these right? As I thought after 2003, models had 15" front and 16" rear?

Actually, scratch that, I just measured my alloys and they are all 16" but with 185/55 R15 front tires and 205/50 R15 rear tires. Does this seem odd?

Yes, very, how do you have 15" tyres on 16" rims?

Think you need to start again...

I honestly just measured the rims with tape and they are 16" but those are the tires on the car. Unless I'm measuring the rims incorrectly? Just measured straight across the diameter?

If the tyres are the size you say, the rims cannot be 16" diameter.

I would double check what the sidewall of the tyre says.

It sounds as though someone may have fitted PFL wheels, as I believe those are the sizes you quoted.

And maybe take the tape measure back and ask for a refund [emoji23]

Thanks for your kind words! I just realised that I was measuring the rims incorrectly following a google search. I'm very new to all this, but keen to learn. Perhaps cut a guy some slack!

Yep. Sounds like you have wheels from the preface lift model. It's not the end of the world, but you may want to look at replacing for continuity and insurance purposes

Post up your location. Someone nearby 'may' have a set. Failing that, try one of the breakers. Dean at Rutland MR2 will surely have a set (He's on holiday until the end of the month though)

Sorry, I genuinely was tying to help.

I apologise if I caused any upset, my comment was followed with a laughing face, to show it was supposed to be light hearted and not taken too seriously.

There's plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people on the site, but we do like to poke fun a little occasionally too.

Just on the outside looking in, I didn't read Smarty's comment as anything but a light-hearted rib poke. We do like a gentle wind up on here at times and I've never seen anything I'd consider out of order.
I know what it's like to get stressed over something you can't get your head round, maybe take a step back, have a brew and get a fresh pair of eyes to have a look?
If you want a laugh, I spent far too long today trying to work out what I'd got wired up wrong when my newly fitted courtesy lights stopped going off when I shut the passenger door after I'd wired a remote switch in.
Half hour of head scratching and 3 blown fuses later I reached over and pulled the driver's door shut...

That's cool then.

Back on point then, personally I wouldn't worry about the PFL wheels, as long as the tyres are good - especially this time of year.

Yeah the tires are all pretty new so I'll wait until the better weather to change the wheels!
