Title: Rear Sub Frame - Where to find one
Post by: bap_swcc on December 13, 2017, 13:09
Hi guys, I know this has been covered but looking for some up-to-date advice as previous threads mention companies that no longer exist etc.

I need to replace my rear subframe (2004/5), any companies or affiliates on here that can get hold of them, and does Toyota still do them or are the rumours of them being discontinued from Mr T true.

If i buy an old pre facelift one I believe it doesn't have the same bracing holes, is this bracing something I can just leave off?

Or anyone on here with a facelift one for sale? I have seen Krazy Steves post for a preface lift one.

Its worth noting that the new OEM ones from Toyota will rust exactly the same as the one you are replacing - best to go with a recon subframe that has been treated etc so you won't need to worry about it in the future.

They're also black instead of silver on the outside for some reason.

Has that been proven?  I bought a brand new one from Toyota for £300 (black) and Hammerited the  sshit shit sshit  out of it as a precaution.

I then (very fortunately) found someone selling one that had been purchased from Toyota in recent years (black one) along with both sets of arms for an unbelievable £50, which has gone on mum's MR2.  But, not a speck of rust on it despite it not having been treated/coated (I coated it before it was fitted to hers).

Hi I had one fitted about 4 months ago it cost just short of £300 plus fitting, then had to get ATS to re-track front and rear another £50. My garage had no problem getting the sub frame from Toyota drives really well after the re-track as well plus I had a new clutch put in so i did feel a bit skint after, £700 + poorer but then Toyota charge £700 just for a clutch so I'm not moaning.

new one from Toyota as mine was rotten through,
£300 from toyota plus fitting,
didnt coat it,
if first one did 2003 -2017 I think the rest of it will have fallen apart long before the other one goes through!

Up to you mate but had one that didn't even last 10 years.
I will be keeping my 2 for as long as possible and as these parts are no longer made it makes sense to take preventative measures.
