Title: PPE Manifold & Racing Cat
Post by: Anonymous on February 23, 2005, 15:47
Have been looking into this a bit, what kind of gains would you expect with the above and how would it differ to the manifold and downpipe listed on MRS-Passion?

Cheers

about 8bhp IIRC

Is the only advantage of having the racing cat over the downpipe the increase in back pressure and passing of the MOT?

yep, and it's a bit quieter

Cheers mate - one final thing.

With the TTE do you think the sound would improve, i know it did with LeeUK's H&S but i am after something to improve sound and was considering the HKS exhaust but then LeeUK suggested the manifold as that'd give better gains, remove the pre-cat problem and improve the noise.

What you reckon?

Adam, had teh TTE backbox, and PPE manifold with no cat last year when I followed him all the way to Essen and back.

it sounds really mean without IMHO sounding ricey or overly loud.

It's a combination I'd be happy with.

the only person who has tried to my knowledge is Lee

I would expect it to be marginally louder than your current setup but more tuneful.

The PPE gear just boosts what ever setup you have already, Induction kit/exhaust by increasing the airflow significantly.  I don't think I would go for the de-cat option due to the fact that it sounds so meaty, the first thing the police will be looking for is a cat if you happen to upset them.  Plus the mot point too!

You can always tell the police you have a custom cat built into the backbox and just change it if they do ask you to go to an MOT station.

I would say that if you are concern about passing the MOT, the maybe decatting isn't really a good choice. Plus, if you are an environmentalist who is concerned about excessive fume and sound emission, then maybe you should opt for a high flow cat instead. PPE does manufacture the exhaust manifold and the high flow cat.

So basically, if you wanna have a race car, then you can opt for the decat plus the PPE header. But if all you want is a MOT-approved, street kinda car, then maybe you should go for the header + a high flow cat.

Coming to the issue of the outer exhaust, I would choose between the Team Moon dual exhaust or the TTE twin exhaust. TM's sound is more aggressive, and it will bring out the OOMPH in a 'racey' car. It sounds more like WAAAARRGGHHHHHH.... But if you want a more subtle and low 'civilized' sound, go for the WOOOOOOOMMMMMMM TTE twin exhaust.
