Good evening folk, gotta question :notworthy:
I take ownership of some side scoops in a little over two weeks.
I intend to have a cone filter air intake of some kind, thinking viper atm.
Thinking there a cold air pipe that runs from the intake to the filter.
Question:
Is it easier to fix said cold air pipe, before the scoops go on?
Am assuming it will have to be a semi permanent fix as scoops are non detachable (unless I can get some like Johns >:D ).
In which case I will have to stop procrastinating and decide on the induction.
:'(

It makes it a bit easier but it's still perfectly doable from the engine size with the battery and battery tray out.
With the vents out you can reach in and grab the end of the tube you're feeding into the side vent and pull.
If you pause the clip when I zoom in on the side vent you can see how far into the vent you can pull the tube

Thanks for that young master Snazzle, to get things in the right order, fit induction kit to make life easier, then the scoops.
Anyone free sat 10th march to help me remove stock box and fit induction kit of unknown make :-\ :D
I have fitted a cone behind the battery, intake temps are still good as there is a fair amount of fresh air coming through the side vent, you will need:
OEM airbox for the MAF tube
Generic cone filter
45 degree 70mm connector
Connect them all together, done, throttle response is better, there might be a bit of power increase up top but I can feel there is more mid range.
remember that side scoops come with the added responsibility of never parking under trees etc. You can't clean those drains out anymore so you need to make sure nothing gets in them :)
If possible, get an intake where the cone filter is in a canister fed by a tube to the side intake. Your intake temps standing still will skyrocket in the summer otherwise.
Or create some kind of custom shielding.

I have a canister style filter in the garage, will look to fit it at some point - there isn't a huge amount of room back there with the battery on one side and the engine bay sloping down on the other side.
You can clean them from the top surely?
Plenty hot water and a bottle brush.
And what about from underneath?
Just asking.
@shnazzle (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=18356)
It's tight for sure, but the Hurricane from Elise Parts fits rather nicely. Temps while driving are rarely more than 3 deg over ambient no matter how hard I thrash it, but at standstill they'll go up to about 10-15deg over ambient. And that's an enclosed and directly fed filter. The open one I had before this went to 31deg once at a roudabout with long traffic lights when it was 11 deg outside

Yup that's the onyl way. Just a warning really to make sure the drains are clear from the top to prevent things going down into the drain where you can't reach them. Like leaves.
Would this work?

Although I think the ducting is a little expensive >:(

No parking under trees allowed due to bird poop
I think that's an exact copy of the Hurricane from EliseShop.

So, yup, that'll do!
The ducting does indeed look a bit on the pricey side.
When you look for an alternative, make sure the metal wiring is stainless or covered. I've seen on @Stewart@Boro (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16205) 's car that the metal wiring has rusted.

That little problem has been sorted now 8)
Hmmmmm, they also produce the below:

Which is the ducting for the little brother of the twister, the storm, it has the same diameter, I wonder what the difference could be? (:< >:)
Just noticed the above is for both the systems :withstupid:
Just get some motorsport brake ducting, its fairly cheap :) I think my cheap enclosed filter came with some ducting anyway!
Had a qwik look at brake ducting, most of the aluminium stuff seems to be about the same prince, Think I'll go with what's made for the filter Mitch.
Still comes in at 100 odd squid cheaper than the original K&N I was looking at, I like to get things which are made to go together. Like to think it makes life easier, allegedly :'(

Don't ever bother with any 'kits' especially from Ken and Norm, you can usually fit something together yourself, find yourself a spare airbox lid to remove the MAF tube (that's a VERY important part owing to the size and height the MAF needs to be at). And simply bolt on a universal filter with some silicone pipework.
Don't underestimate the importance of the filter.
I can guarantee you that a cheap 12 quid one off ebay flows significantly less than a pricier one, or hell even the stock panel.
They can be seriously restrictive and have cheap foam that filters next to nowt.
It's the only filter between the outside world's gunk and your engine so it's worth 25-30 for a good filter at least.
Isn't the stock S2000 filter a good choice?
It's a cone style and must flow loads
Very interesting find. And cheap enough to replace yearly

I have seen those OEM S2000 filters used for aftermarket uses - might check the size :)
