Title: Fox exhaust questions
Post by: MisterK on March 3, 2018, 14:34
I've been living with the annoying baffle rattle from my TTE exhaust for a while now & it's got to the point where I might just have to change the system  >:(

As my car has the Toyota GB body kit fitted, including the rear spats, this prevents the fitting of the Cobra system - the gap between the spats is 105cm and the furthest distance between the exhaust tips on the quad exhaust is 106cm.  The Dual tips is a bit narrower, but still too wide and I don't know that I could live with the noise of the Cobra.

I've read some good reviews of the Fox system and it would appear that a number of members have one of these on their cars.  My questions are:

- How loud is the Fox exhaust?  Is it similar to the TTE System because that is what I'm after or even slightly louder?
- What is the measurement between the exhaust tips at the furthest point?  If you can state whether it's a Twin 90mm tailpipe, a Quad 76mm tailpipe or an Oval 135 x 80 mm tailpipe, that would be appreciated.

I've asked the above question to DC Performance, but they have answered that as all exhausts are made to order they don't keep stock and don't know the measurements.  They have said that the exhaust is popular and I should ask on a Forum - hence my post  ;)

Finally, for all of those of you who do have one of these systems fitted, would you recommend it?

Many thanks in advance.

Cant help with any of your questions Mark but I am sure I remember someone having their TTE exhaust repaired with new baffles and then welded up.

Presumably a customer exhaust maker should be able say if this is possible?

I've got the Fox with ovals but I'm away from it until tomorrow so can't supply the measurements until then, I'm plenty happy with it though, can't really compare the sound against a TTE because I'm not familiar with that sound. The Fox isn't ridiculously loud but sounds nice at full throat.

Don't know if you can take any reference points from this?

Thanks...from the photo it looks like the tips are in the same position as the TTE ones, so it looks like good news  ;D

I had a Fox quad on my last one and the build quality was pretty good, certainly better than a Cobra, to my eyes at least. Its certainly heavier than one , as well, probably closest to a TTE in terms of size and weight. I liked the sound of it, not too loud and mine was never boomy either. It is slightly different to the TTE, but has character.
I am miles away from addressing a new exhaust on my current project car, but if I keep a stock engine, the Fox system would be my choice, I think.

I do agree with the suggestion of repairing the baffle on the tte if you really like it. I have seen these baffles go a fewtimes now, on the tte.

Back to the fox,I did put a clip on youtube of a cold start on the fox quad. The downpipe to tips also has some adjustability, just for clarity.

Thanks Nigel & Simon for the suggestion.  I'll have a look on the Tinterweb to see if there's anywhere locally that can do a refurb/repair of the baffles.  The silencer box will have to opened up and then resealed with a stainless steel weld.  Maybe someone knows of a firm who do this in the Birmingham, Leicester, Coventry area?

What about powerflow custom exhausts?  They build full stainless steel exhausts and have a depot in Coventry. I'd be interested in what they have to say as I think mine may need doing at some point.

I've read varying reports about the Powerflow system, so not too sure about them.  I've contacted Longlife Exhausts who are in Walsall https://www.longlife.co.uk/ to ask if they can repair the TTE.  They do say they can make a bespoke system for the MR2, so I've asked how much  ;)  I'll let you know  ::)

Nige - I've found the clip and the sound isn't bad, quite close to the TTE.  The video also shows where the exhaust tips are and the quad would fit fine with the Rear Spats of the bodykit.

Is it powerflow that gets iffy reviews or pro flow?either way long life get good reviews from a few members on here that used them. Seem to be massive fluctuations on price though for a full system looking at an old thread. Be interested to see what price they quote for repairing the tte if they will do it.

You might me right...it could have been Pro Flow that were iffy.  Let's see what Longlife come back with but I might get in touch with Powerflow too.

I guess with any of the companies it all comes down to the installer/welder you get on the day.
Hope they can repair the Tte tbh, great exhaust, be a shame to see one get binned.

If you do decide to go for a brand new one, I wouldn't mind buying the old tte and having a go at getting it repaired, but I would be surprised if a half decent exhaust shop couldn't sort that out and make it excellent again.
