Title: Insurance when doing supporting mods!
Post by: BahnStormer on April 17, 2018, 20:25
I'm getting my renewal done with Greenlight!

Not only were they >25% cheaper than Adrian Flux's "best price", despite going for slightly higher annual mileage (I've changed jobs and the new commute is slightly longer)... but Greenlight will also insure the car including ALL mods that do not increase horsepower... so I have the next year to do all the supporting mods I want without paying admin fees to make changes each time and get dinged each time for upgrading sensible things like suspension, bracing, brake lines, etc...

Even if they aren't quite as cheap as your current insurer, I'd recommend checking them out for when you're doing supporting mods.

Made the change to them this year.
Flux took the Mickey.
They are happy to beat any quote but I prefer the green light approach.
Best quote first time.
If I get a similar quote next year I won't even bother shopping around.

Sounds good.

Hopefully it's not a loss leader that will then allow them to ramp up the premium next year once you've done all those mods....

Gosh, aren't I cynical!

Seriously, it does sound like they're a good option.

A FYI, their website clearly says they won't insure written off cars.

Has anyone had a Cat D insured by them knowingly?

Did you speak to them then or do it online?

I don't get that - as soon as they look up the details of the car, surely the DVLA would flag the car as a Cat D?

I mentioned that the "MR2 roadster club" members were taking about them, but not the url including the ROC. ORG as I wasn't aware there was commission with all insurers.

Not all, but Greenlight, Adrian Flux, Prestige and Chris Knott

Of course! Don't forget, we get discount too if we're members of a club (quite often in the range of 10%)
Haven't had a chance to speak to Greenlight yet.

Had a (silly) quote off Flux. To be fair, it was an online one. I've not spoken to them yet.

Greenlight were great when I used them, I foolishly (with hindsight) swapped to flux. I will be back to greenlight next policy without a shadow of a doubt.
After being done over twice this year by flux on separate policies I'm firmly in the " FLUX SUX"  camp................

Yeah
There's a thread i started at the time about it on here somewhere.
The short version is they reneged on the agreed value once they'd taken my money  :protest:
Oh and their rep on here read my PM's and ignored them, obviously didn't realise you could tell when the messages had been received and read :-\

They can only give me a quote with 21 days to go - I currently have about 27. As per above, they don't care about mods that don't increase HP.

And yes, they can quote a Cat D as long as it has an MOT.
