Title: Reverse beeping
Post by: Callyuk on April 25, 2018, 08:26
When the 2 is put into reverse It beeps constantly, is this something from factory or an aftermarket thing that's been fitted? It's bloody annoying and I need to find a way to get rid of it

It's factory. The one beeper does everything though so most people just quieten it a bit.

There are threads about how to do this so do a quick google search.

Is that a facelift thing?  Neither of mine do that (both PFL) but they do beep for other things (keys left in ignition etc).

It's FL because of the 6 speed.
When I first bought my 2 it was a god send.
Constantly selecting reverse.
As above just deaden the sound a bit it can come in handy.

This comes up regularly. This is the route if you want to do it properly

I can certainly see it being useful but, equally, I can certainly see why having the full-volume beep for the entire time reverse is engaged would also be annoying.  A momentary beep (as suggested in the linked thread) makes sense.

Its standard, the beeper is behind the instrument cluster, you can easily take out the cluster by pulling on the cluster surround, there are 2 screws holding the cluster into the car and a few connectors on the back of it, you can then simply tape over the speaker part which will quieter/silence it if needed.

Didn't realise this was a new feature of the face lift models.

Tape won´t help much. I tried. Ended up desoldering that annoying beeper off.

I silenced the reverse beeper altogether by cutting the relevant wire behind the clocks.  It still beeps at full volume for all the other things.

Never had an issue accidentally selecting reverse.

Thank you for all the replies. Ideally I would like it just to beep once to say its in reverse but may just settle with quietening it down a fair bit

This is definitely the best way to go, even I have managed to do it, so it's very straightforward.
