I have been giving my MR2 a spring clean after taking the hardtop off. I am now reminded that the black trim bit (technical name) behind the roof looks a bit of a mess still. It sits under the hardtop but with it off is in full view. The plastic material looks like it was originally quite glossy but is now pitted and scuffed. I have tried polishing and some fine wet and dry paper in the past with minimal success. Does anyone know a good method to clean this up?
I suspect they are all starting to look tatty, mine does. I havent found a way to make it look better.
Have you tried to see if you can still get them from a dealer?
I've tried a bit of a wet sand and polish...all to no avail...next step is to paint it...I'm not looking forward to the masking [emoji51]

Mine is equally as tatty and I also think painting is the only answer. Also put off by the masking and the possibility of making it worse!
I have actually considered getting them wrapped...just not sure of the longevity but I'm thinking chrome...I'd love to get the windscreen pillars chrome wrapped too [emoji846]

Maybe a little left field, but, (try a small sample area first) Shoe polich applied via cloth.
I applied autoglym bumper gell to the trim at the same time as I do the roof, it looks great after. Unfortunately the process needs repeating regularly to keep it that way.

I use the ag Bumpercare too but it sort of helps it look better for about a day [emoji17]

Looks like it might be case of looking the other way on this one! I'll give the boot polish and Autoglym gel a try though.
Replacing the trim is a possibility but I'm not sure it is easily done.
I thought about replacing it but you'll need to undo the roof to get to it and then trying to source and immaculate one will be like trying to find the holy grail...although you could then paint it more easily once removed [emoji1360]
