Hi All,
After a nice run on the dales day out, I remember Shnazzle mentioning there was no sound coming from the back of my car :(
I heard callthemidlifes fox exhaust from 2 cars in front and I knew I had to get a new exhaust when I got the MR2 past it's mot.
After a bit of research with Cobra, powerflow - I've ended up with an original TTE exhaust. Just had it fitted, no cutting of bumpers needed, a reasonably straight forward fit by a local friendly garage.
My thoughts are:
no drone at cruising speeds
loud enough but not enough to upset the neighbours on a Sunday morning drive.
lovely sound and it feels faster to me.
I think these still look great on the preface lift models.
I have a TTE on mine, sounds great, quiet around town and on cruise, sounds great when accelerating :D
A fine choice!
Well done and looks great.
Looking good, sounding great.
Job jobbed! 8)
Just be warned, if you use a toyosport manifold to rid yourself of precats, it makes it considerably louder :))

Well played. FL PFL looks right on both
Yep. Another TTE convert. I've just replaced my main CAT with a Cats2U cat - the TTE sounds a bit dribblier and burblier now. Hopefully getting a decat manifold soon - that can only help right???
I KNOW you boys like loud exhausts. But I must confess to a little amusement when they get posted in 'Performance Related'.
Would that kind of 'performance' be more of the showbiz variety?

Based on your second comment. Perhaps they should be in appaearance related! All show... lol
I was spoiled - my car came with a (rather well used) TTE so I never knew any different. Until my mum got her MR2, with the standard back box, and you can barely hear it running.
Find the TTE gets a bit tiring after a couple of hours of motorway driving but certainly looks the part.
I'm getting old... I want my TTE to be more quiet.
Happy for my induction noise to be there but the back box needs to settle down.
Another reason I haven't done aftermarket manifold yet, it makes it so much louder.
Shnaz and boss.
Having just gone back to a tte. With all fresh gaskets etc etc. I find mine surprisingly quiet.
Not like my first.
Might be worth checking your joints.
What are you ltft's like. Might indicate a leak.
Yeah but you came from an SP240 exhaust!
That thing is well loud. Lovely and beautiful. But quite loud indeed.

Is a aftermarket manifold, such as a Toyosport, louder than a gutted stock one?? :o
Thought they would sound the same but if that's the case, would love to have mine a bit louder. Got a twin exit Magnex but it's only slightly louder than stock. Barely noticable.
Now I'm scared of my new exhaust! Jo is gonna kill me

I was only referring to my previous TTE.
SP, yes. SP240 ?, no idea.
Are all SP zorsts 240?
Should have priced it higher
SMC
Dont skimp on the gaskets and any sealing that is required. That way, you will have a true sound.
Given we have different turbo set ups I would imagine whatever it sounded like on mine, it will sound different on yours.
But, an SP zorst bolted to an SP kit seems right, as does the TTE zorst bolted to the TTE kit.

Patrick.
I have an idea,
How about we park up next to each other and compare.
If yours sounds like mine, then yes, you are getting old.
If it sounds much louder, then perhaps checking for leaks might be in order.
I just know my old one sounded much fruiter than this one.
But when parked to next to anoter TTE at whatever DD it was theirs sounded quiter than my old, which suggests my old (previous one) was not with out issue.

Would be interesting. No leaks on mine though. Fuel trims spot on. But the packing and baffling may not be what it was :)
It used to be quieter.
I remember when I put it on, it was a subtle difference over stock. Very present but still subtle.
Now it booms
@shnazzle (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=18356) it's all that unburnt fuel in there to make it pop and bang on overrun!

Au contraire. I'm running purposeful lean pops :)
I don't get bangs

Apologies. Just gonna call you Popsicle from now on then. ;)
Patrick
Something definitely not right if booming
Think definitely park next to you and H compare all 3.
Still sounds like this

Would it be in poor taste to mention that I can hear the valves? Yes, it probably would, so I'll say nothing.

You have said something!! ....
and if you think they sound bad there...you should hear them now :(
Gotta be honest, when I picked up my MR2 it had what I thought was a nice sounding twin exhaust.
After a 550mile drive home, with the exhaust note droning and seemingly amplified by the hard top almost the whole way, I was glad to swap the twin onto my lesser used MR-S and put the standard exhaust on to the MR2.
Yup, getting old. (http://www.aspectsweb.co.uk/enjay/emo/old.gif)

I found the opposite. When the HT is on I almost can't hear the exhaust on mine. It's a refreshing spring time event to remove the HT and hear the exhaust in all it's glory.

It could easily have been specific to this particular exhaust. It wasn't so much that I could hear the exhaust itself. It was more that the note of it seemed to drone through the entire car. I guess that it was at the resonant frequency of the bodywork or something.

I don't find the TTE drones. That's the beauty of it. It pops and burbles when it needs to and it's a bit noisy at 6,000 RPM, but it's very comfortable in the 2.5-3.5k range.
My one is definitely not a TTE. I don't know what it is (no obvious identifying marks) but boy did it drone. I was sick of it by the time I got home. I thought it might not be so bad on shorter runs but even on my 30-40 minute commute to work it was getting on my wick by then end of the journey. It was especially bad at motorway cruising speeds or when planting the foot going up a hill.
The sound might well suit some people, but it wasn't for me. I might look at getting an alternative at some point but I will approach with caution given my experience with this one. I'm hearing lots of good things about the TTE though so I might look into that at some point.

I assembly my TTE 1 month ago. It's loud when engine is cold, but when it reach temperature is getting quieter. Noise level is similar to stock one, but sound is much better. It getting to be noisy after 3,5k rpm, but stock one was also loud at high rpm.
I notice that with TTE exhaust car is like more responsive, it goes to higher rpm a bit quicker.
"Must have" improvment in MR2.
Anybody know where to get the 2nd hangar for a TTE? I'm not having any luck finding one :(
The only time I've noticed mine droning is when motorway traffic opened up and I realised I was doing ~80mph in 4th.
Might be an issue on a V6 or a 5 speed, but even 80mph on a FL 6 speed and it's fine!
