Title: Replacing rear hub mounted bushes
Post by: russ69 on May 21, 2018, 11:24
Hi
I've been looking at my rear suspension as the car sways when braking and wanders when cornering as though only 5 psi in the tyres. The rear hub mounted bushes are both shot with loads of play in them (shocks springs and other bushes seem ok). Bought polybushes to fit. What is the easiest way of getting the old bush out? Dont want to start removing the hub itself. Will be replacing all the bushes over the summer when the coffers allow. Its an 04 plate by the way (dont know if PFL's are different).
Thanks in advance.

A couple of sockets a threaded rod and nuts and washers can generally be used to extract the original bushes. AFAIK the main hub bush (not the trailing arm one) doesn't have a poly option and replacement metalastic needs to be used. Is that the faulty one?

Edit: This is the bad boy -

Thanks for the tip. That is the bush but polybush do one which they call trailing arm to hub bush, it is part number 7U. See part and diagram

The main hub bush isn't shown on that diagram but goes where you can see the 'fork' next to the hub. If that bush it OK you're lucky as they're not cheap.

Its definitely the bush marked 7U that I'm replacing. As stated, will get round to all of the bushes that will take a polybush.
