Title: Spring like noise when depressing clutch??
Post by: Bodgeroo on May 24, 2018, 19:11
Hi all, on what seems like random occasions when depressing the clutch it sounds like someone has just "twanged" a spring in the engine bay. It's quite loud. Clutch operates fine - no slipping etc. Any idea what this is and is it a sign of something about to let go?

I assume this will turn out to be the usual clutch noise that lots of people get. It happened to mine for a few weeks but went away all by itself.

It is possible to get some grease into the bell housing to address the issue but I suggest you just wait and see if it stops. There is a thread on here about it, it's to do with the lever that operates the clutch itself. I don't think it causes any problems, it's just a bit annoying.

Thanks Lamcote. It's definitely not that noise as that was more a squeak that I sorted a while ago. This is like someone flicking a spring with a screwdriver.

How old IS the clutch?

Sounds as tough one of the fingers in the pressure plate is hanging up occasionally.  Not much you can do about that short of a new pressure plate.

I am guessing it's on the original clutch at 76k. So it may well be that. Glad to hear it's likely nothing too serious
