Title: Which brakes for track?
Post by: james_ly on June 7, 2018, 18:15
Took my new 2 to Snetterton today, only made it until lunch time on the rear pads. Not sure what the previous owner put on but they were good for 3-4 laps only, then faded and disintegrated fast. Do people stick with standard discs and just uprate the pads?

Most people use standard discs and yellow stuff pads.

and braided hoses / change the brake fluid...

as per @mikek (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=22649) - I've consistently been told that stock disc sizes should be fine for track use and most people use the stock discs.

Yep, already done the fluid, pedal feel is fine so I don't think I need the hoses. Also need to investigate the caliper as the left rear wore the pad more. Hopefully just need to grease the slider.

I would never go on track with unknown pads.

If you find the yellow stuff aren't to your liking there is always carbotech.

Yellow stuff on order, and if they wear too fast I'll try the carbotechs, hopefully won't need to though!

Yellowstuff seem fine on the road, maybe a bit less modulation, and very first press is worse. But no squeal. Hope they hold up on the track!

Yellowstuff were really good on track, on my road tyres anyway. Feel like they'd cope fine with better tyres as well.
