Title: Turbo blanket
Post by: HereComesTheWife on June 20, 2018, 18:01
Here's something I never thought I'd research! Its been recommended that I get a turbo blanket, so that the rest of my engine bay doesn't get warmed up from it. Does anyone know anything about these, they seem to range from £30 - £170, but I cant work out what the difference is between them. Does anyone have any experience of these?
I love the thought of my little turbo with a blanket and a pillow

Quick on the draw there. Lol.

I have just bought one last weekend. There's a definite reduction in my engine bay temps.

My theory was, it's not a race car. It won't need a £100+ blanket. How different can they really be.

It seems fairly good quality although time will tell.

Helen,

I like what you have done there, made a quick decision before someone can come along and tell you that you need the most expensive one you can get.....

John, you are amongst friends here, is that your bedroom?

Maybe a daft question but wont that hold the heat in the turbo? This means the turbo will run hotter and the air charge will be hotter  :-\

I get what you mean but it also reduces heat soak to the compressor side as it only covers the turbine housing. The coolant should help in reducing the temp of the cold side as it's in between each half. there's gonna be pros and cons but I think they'll pretty much even out as far as effecting the air temp coming out of the compressor. But with the reduced engine bay temps it should mean the IC runs cooler and therefore reduces them overall.

Blanket is only on the hot side. And you want the hot side to be hot :)
