Hello! Sorry to drag the topic up again but I've had a search and can't find the answer. I have a feeling it's a stupid question but I'd rather ask before wasting time and money.
I need new tires but I can't seem to find any decent ones that fit both the 15 and 16 on my post facelift car. It looks like many of you have gone for wider tires (looking at the Toyo T1Rs) but will wider tires fit the the stock wheels or do I need to buy new wheels? Also while we're here, any other tire recommendations other than the toyos? I currently have Bridgestone re005s (I think) on the front and they seem to tramline however they're not in the best condition. It's got budget tires on the back. (Not my choice! Previous owner!)
I haven't got them on the car yet, but I got these.... http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Hankook/Ventus-Prime-3-K125.htm
£271 delivered.
Nankang NS20. Sticky good in all weather. I do tend to go through them rather quickly, though.
At present, I'm running 215 16R at rear and 195 15R front.

Cool, haven't heard of that brand! So to confirm, the stock for the front is 185-55-15 but you've got 195. Is that on the stock rim or did you have to buy new wheels?

Stock.
Many different widths will fit on stock rims.
I have had 205 on the front but wouldn't recommend it.
Get as close to stock as possible car just feels RIGHT that way IMHO.
if you search on Blackcircles you will find suitable matching tyres by Avon, Yokohama, Falken, Hankook and Goodyear in stock Facelift sizes. (185/55/15 & 215/45/16)
If you check out the tyre reviews thread (sticky in the performance section of the forum) you will find reviews on most of those options.

Hello! Thank you. I'm sure I looked on black circles and could hardly find any that fit both!
It's not easy.
Some makers do the fronts but not the rears and vice versa.
If you like to match the speed and load rating to as close to stock as possible the choice gets smaller still.

Not had to look for tyres myself recently, but following posts, my perception is we are better catered for than 18 months 2 years ago.

As Jason has pointed out, if you tie your search down to stock load and speed ratings the choice gets alot smaller (in fact I think the ONLY "86 W" rears that have matching fronts are the Yoko AD08Rs ).
Personally I would not worry about load or speed ratings as (IMHO) all of the options are fine (all are at least H rated for speed which is fine for the top speed of the car and all options meet or exceed the stock load ratings).

i will just point out for the benefit of the O.P. that those are not stock size fronts Carolyn, while at the same time acknowledging that I'm assuming a desire to explore stock size options first :)
I went for Avon ZV7's and have no complaints.
All four balanced and fitted was around £250 iirc.
A number of people run AD08R , great tyre. Sticky and progressive

Hi Guys hope this helps
I've been having the same dilemma with tyres as Bridgestone have stopped making the RE040 fronts
I've just done a deal for all MR2 Owners with Halfords Tyres on:
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R
Fronts: 185/55 R15 82V
Rears: 215/45 86W
They will do the fronts and rear with £5.00 off each tyre
So fronts normally £93.99 are now fitted including VAT for £88.99 each and are in stock now
Rears normally £118.99 will be £113.99 (out of stock untill mid-August)
They will supply a discount code for us in the next few days and I'll post it up asap.
I've also spoken to Yokohama UK directly and assure me they no plans to discontinue the tyre sizes we use and confirmed they are waiting for a shippment to arrive of the rears.
If I nead to post this somewhere else please let me know :-\
