Is there anything that can be done with the aerial? It annoys me going up and down all the time when I turn my stereo on. Can it be removed/changed/stopped from raising? I don't even use the radio, but want to use it for streaming music, phone etc

On PFL at least, as long as you don't have that traffic news interruption rubbish configured, the aerial won't go up if you don't have the radio selected on the head unit.

I mean TA RDS signals [emoji16]

Doesn't seem to be the case on the FL, it goes up as soon as you turn it on

Lots of people use the window lock switch to control the aerial power and keep it down when not needed. There is a how to.
On my pfl with the Sony head unit, the power is only called when the radio is being used or when left tuned to a station with auto freqency. I have set one radio preset to a station with no AF, with that one selected the aerial drops when the CD is playing.
It will depend on what head unit you have. Most units use the blue lead for aerial power, some are "always on" and others have the logic on AF.
I've just bought a new Kenwood which should be pretty good, I haven't installed it just yet. Hopefully it will be logical as you say!

On a new unit you might even be able to select the power function somewhere in the depths of the settings.
Good luck, looks like this weekend's job is set!
This is a common issue.
Use the search function many people fit a switch.
I just never connected my aerial when I changed my HU Bluetooth from my phone is all I need.

It's a 10min job - essentially:
1) take off the doors to BOTH bins...
2) remove both bins
3) unplug the brown fagpacket(ish) iszed relay under the driver's side bin
4) test radio/ignition, aerial should be disabled
5) put it all back together.
You'll need a philips screw driver and a socket (8mm/10mm, can't recall)
A small flat-head screwdriver (for the press-studs) and some plastics tools would help, but not essential
You can do it with just the one bin coming out, but it's such a pain putting the one side back in without risking breaking plastics, that it's MUCH easier just to take them both out!
Cheers mate!

If you are installing a Kenwood head unit, the plug that goes into the back of it is different from the one that goes into the factory unit. So you need a harness adaptor similar to the one pictured below. Wires are colour-coded and the blue wire is for the power antenna/aerial. If you don't want the aerial to go up, just sever that wire...end of!
Since it's an additional harness, you've not affected any of the factory wiring so is easily reversible.
As mentioned, you can also simply insert a switch to connect the two end of blue wire which is what I have done. Seemingly, are various locations to put this. I simply inserted two lengths of extra wire, removed the coin holder and have an up/down aerial switch there.

@michaelb (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=24962) have a look
in this section second thread in
Using the the passenger window disable switch for something else.
Maybe it should have a new title like-
How to stop the Ariel going up and down like a yo-yo.
Ah cheers guys, and yes I have a harness like that one, so I will just cut the wire!

Got it fitted, just didn't connect the blue wire. Works perfectly and the aerial stays down!
