Title: Sloppy gearchange
Post by: Dudi on August 15, 2018, 11:15
I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

I have a 2zz swapped MR2 with a close ration (Corolla I think ) LSD gearbox. I had a few synchro issues with my old box so this was a brand new unit that was placed and the change into second still feels sloppy.

It has a TRD short shifter + cage, weighted gearknob, shifter linkage bearings and running Redline MT90 gearbox oil.

Could it be something to do with the shifter cable? Stretched cables potentially? Would like to sort it out as occasionally I don't get any feedback whether it's in gear or not and the problem is localised to second gear only.

A bit of a guess, but it could be as simple as worn bushings in the cable ends.  Easy to replace.

The cables are quite strong, so stretching is less likely.  Not saying it can't happen though.

The bushings have been changed for the bearings on the engine side which I think were bought through a group buy on this forum. I haven't checked the bushings on the shifter end but I guess it could be those.

Gearbox linkage has a bushing/plasti pieces(s) that get can get worn too and develop play. Not hard to check, you can do it by hand over gearbox...
