Title: Rusty nuts
Post by: lamcote on August 19, 2018, 11:17
I am planning on making a list of nuts and bolts etc that I will loosen and retighten once a year to make sure that when I come to need to do some work at some point in the future I don't run into problems getting them undone.

My questions are, is this a sensible idea and if so which should be on the list?

I am thinking:

Brake slider bolts
Brake caliper carrier bolts
Toe adjustment front and rear
O2 sensors   (only joking!!)
Rear suspension bolts? This might shuttlecock up the alignment?
Strut bolts
Brake line support bolts
Antiroll bar drop links
Handbrake cable connector thingys on the calipers

Appreciate your thoughts.

All good stuff....

As for the suspension bolts (the toe arm) mark them before you loosen them.  Then you can take them all the way out, clean and lube and put them back in the same position.

I just did this myself.  Handling is still spot -on.  These bolts are notorious for utterly seizing in place destroying both suspension arms and sub-frame!  So worth doing.

3 amigos? Generally, a bit of copper grease on the threads or a weak loctite to seal them might be an idea, use new fasters too if they are bad.
