Hi guys,
My clutch is starting to slip sometimes slightly and got me thinking about if it's worth spending the extra money and putting a 2zz clutch in my stockish 1zz when the time comes.
I know the clutch fits and stuff but are there any benefits or any gains to be had by going for a 2zz clutch? Does it make it faster/slower, can it take more abuse, does it last longer etc... stuff like that.

someone else had asked before and I remembered that the clutch I got was for 1zz and 2zz. But then he presented evidence to suggest the opposite. But then found the same clutch he was going to buy being marketed as a 1zz as well.
So... We're none the wiser but seeing as how the TTE turbo runs on a stock clutch, I think you're alright

Stock LUK on the TTE here. No issues.
Im running a 2zz clutch on my TTE turbo works a treat, but for standard 1zz a good LUK 1zz clutch is more than up for the job
Exedy have different part numbers and prices for 1zz and 2zz . For peace of mind I am going for a exedy 2zz clutch kit on my 2zz swap . Also means I can fit and forget as I am bound to have other issues to sort.

Hmm might aswell stick with the standard 1zz clutch then.
Thought going for a 2zz clutch might have some benefits. Its listed as an upgrade for a 1zz on Fensport and monkeywrench but doesnt explain or give any info... I was assuming and hoping it would last longer,if thrashed, than a 1zz clutch as its made to handle more power but I don't know :-\
More power but not more torque.

In my limited non technical brain. I concur the 2zz makes more power. The sticking point I have is, the "real power" only comes in from 6K ish. By which time the clutch has long been engaged.
Maybe your driving style is to launch from 6K+ I don't know.
Does a silky smooth clutch operation enter into your equations at all?
When I last had serious work done on mine, an excedy was repalced with an LUK.
I found the excedy judddary on pull off. No such issues on the LUK.
Buttery smooth operation of my LUK. Might be down to the quality of the installation.
Not easy as no two 2s are the same.
But would be good if you could compare the difference before parting with wine tokens.
2zz does have more torque across the range but especially (obviously at 6k rpm).
Also, and more importantly, it revs 1k more.
So, it makes sense that the clutches are different but it's just odd that many seem to sell them as cross-"zz".
On a side note; I have mentioned that next time I will be putting a stronger clutch in. Yes the LUK is absolutely buttery and light, but it lacks that bite when you want to rag it

I've used Exedy clutches in my Celica Tsport and in another one I had in the past aswell but never experienced any judder. Then again those are for a 2zz though... If they are similer or same as 1zz, wonder if they will have the same feel.
LUK sounds decent also but I was wanting something with more feel and bite. That's why I thought a 2zz clutch might be an improvement and last longer aswell.

1zz and 2zz clutches are the same, its the flywheels that are different - they have a different bolt pattern at the end of the crank.
