Title: Mountain Bike Gaiter to Replace Handbrake Cable Gaiter - Possible?
Post by: je72 on September 3, 2018, 09:04
Hello all, after a bit of advice please.  :notworthy:

During the fitting my 2nd had £40 ebay calipers I was able to see clearly that both the rubber gaiters at the ends of my handbrake cable were shot, the cables still looked clean and the handbrake functions fine so I'm keen to try to resolve the issue and to avoid this creating a problem with the cables down the line.

I seem to remember @Call the midlife! (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=24360) saying that some people had fitted mountain bike brake gaiters to replace the original toyota ones. Did I dream this?  :-\ and would anyone be able to give any pointers as to which gaiter would work best? And maybe even a tip on making sure it fits nicely if there is any.  I tried the search and I can't find anywhere that this has been discussed before.

Thanks in very much advance :)

You didn't dream it but I can't remember who it was that started the ball rolling with it.
I remember them saying they were a snug fit and needed manipulating over the cables etc but did the job.
Maybe best to nip into the local bike shop (or Halfrauds) and size some up?

I am looking to fit a set I have for mine, I am also going to use one of those bike cable oiling devices to force oil through the cable and surround to keep it lubricated inside the cable etc.
