Title: Intake manifold divider
Post by: m1tch on September 7, 2018, 07:36
Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone had any photos of the divider within the intake manifold, need to remove it as I am concerned it might break up and get sucked into the engine once I go boosted.

Trying to find other options but there seem to be the only options I have:

Run the divider stock and hope it doesn't break
Try and remove the divider myself
Buy a MWR intake with the divider removed already - $250 plus shipping and taxes
Swap to the OEM metal manifold - found a few in the US
Try and find the 1zz to 2zz intake manifold adaptor plate
Speak with somewhere like Jenvey for an off the shelf one, think Weapon R used to sell one
Go custom/mod a 2zz manifold to fit

Really do need help on this, there seems to be very little info about on it.

Managed to find a cheap 2zz intake manifold, might however switch to an OEM metal one from the earlier 1zz engines - there are a few over in the states, plenum volume isn't huge but could easily increase this.

I do know that some folk have managed to remove the divider, and also to secure and strengthen it.

I have a spare manifold here, which you are welcome to dig into!!

edit:  also got a scope...

I might take you up on that, I have a spare manifold in the garage however I might have messed it up - tempted to perhaps try and separate the 2 halves or maybe cut a slot along it to then reseal it. I have a scope somewhere, will try and dig it out this weekend, issue being is I don't know what I am looking for, looking through the TB port I can't really see anything.

Ah - I meant:  I have a scope!

Doh.

I will see what I can work out this weekend, I have a 2zz manifold coming which would actually be the better option due to the larger throttlebody size, might still purchase the 1zz metal manifold but need to check the costs - will probably cost around £120 to get it here which isn't ideal.

Luckily I have a spare intake so I can get the dimensions, should be able to trace where the 1zz bolt holes are and see how far the ports are out - might even be able to simply drill the 2zz manifold with additional holes. Failing that I guess I could look to DIY it myself with some metal, drill the holes for both manifolds and recess the heads of bolts either way to allow it to bolt on. I have seen someone did sell an adaptor plate but I can't find them online anywhere so I think it was a fair few years ago.

Pulled the trigger and I now have an equal length metal intake manifold on the way, its got a small plenum but might look to increase this by adding a spacer before the throttle body - will be interesting to play with.

I am also in the process of creating/sorting out manufacture of a 1zz to 2zz intake manifold adaptor plate which I might also look to run at some point if it works out, plan is:

Run the metal intake manifold when my project car is running NA, then swap to a 2zz manifold later before the turbo is bolted on - really interested to see if I can get this OEM metal intake bolted on to see what difference it makes.
