Hello all, clutch has started to slip so I'm in the market for a new one and fitting.
I've found a guy on the Facebook group who's offered to do it for £150 labour and me to provide the clutch kit. He's local(ish) to me. There's no way I could do this myself and that price seems very keen, does anybody suggest any questions I should ask to make sure he knows what he's doing? I have already asked if he's done an MR2 clutch before and he said he had and that he races them. He's FB friends with Dick, Dean & TB Developments, so it looks like he's on the scene.
Also having had a quick search on eBay I've found a few that vary wildly in price. Are there any recommendations for something that would be a good replacement for stock quality?
Thanks in advance for any advice folks.
Seems a good price for labour, I would recommend luk. Think Eurocarparts have them on offer.
Sounds a damn fair price. LUK kit, a few bottles of mt90 and 150..that'll do

I just bought the above. It might be the O/E clutch? It was about £10 cheaper than an LUK.

Just picked up the LUK kit on Amazon for £60 and I had a £10 voucher to come off that too :)

I've messaged the chap and he asked if I wanted to do the flywheel as well, but I don't know :-\

Cheers @shnazzle (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=18356) , sorry for the dumb question but what's 150? Google helped with MT90 but it draws a bland on 150 :)
Think the 150 refers to your labour charge.
LUK fitted in mine silky smooth
Change the gearbox oil. MT90 highly regarded. But then I used something else and perfectly happy with that.
Correct fresh gear oil is always going to give an improvement over tired old gear oil.
Reagrds flywheel. If he means getting it skimmed so you have a nice fresh clean flat surface for your nice new clean fresh clutch to mate to, I would say do it. You will in all likelyness only be going down this route the once. So might as well do it right.
If he means do you want a superlight flywheel fitting. Thats a different story and will require many more wine tokens.
In all seriousness. A correctly fitted LUK should feel superlight and buttery smooth.

Oh man I'm such a doof! I thought 150 was some type of fluid, but yeah I can see he meant the labour figure now :D
The guy says he can get the flywheel skimmed at his work if needed so I've said I'll take his advice when it's all out and take it from there.
Just bought a Borg and Beck 3 piece kit, very good quality, from ebay seller [Ybcarsuk] for £58.76, my second favourite garage said it would be 1 days work, didn't say how many hour in his day or hourly rate, so I will go to number 1 favourite garage and get a proper quote, plenty of time, just a very high pedal at the moment. but you know "when its gone its gone".
