Title: Project exhaust
Post by: ad_car_08 on September 26, 2018, 21:18
Hi,

So, the standard exhaust is pretty weighty, right...

... I'm feeling a project coming on, and going to fabricate my own. Obviously I'll use a back box/silencer from another exhaust, but there lies the first question? Has anyone been there and done it, and frankensteined a....for example.... VW Golf exhaust and mig'd your own pipes to your own liking?

I think it's circa £150 for a custom back box from the likes of powerflow. I think that's pretty cheap.

Then you can have it as light as you want if noise isn't too much of an issue.

Check out Profusion exhausts.  Boxes, bends, pipe all in stock.  That's how I did the one for the supercharger car.

I tacked mine together and then had my local Tig welder do the welding.  Much much tidier than migging, plus much smoother internals.

£450 was the quote I got from my local powerflow garage  :o

Perfect, thanks Carolyn. Any advice for choosing the right silencer for a n/a 1zz?

Not really.  I like really quiet, which is not to everyone's taste.  The one on the S/C car is not very loud, but louder than I like.  Chosen because of space requirements.

Noise isn't important to me, more free flowing and lighter is my aim
