Title: Spark plug socket recommendations please!
Post by: cptspaulding on October 7, 2018, 22:48
I have 2 spark plug socket & have the same issue on both.

I put the new spark plug in, then it's a lottery when I go to retract the tool. Either the ratchet & extension bar come off leaving the socket wrapped round the plug or the socket comes off BUT leaves the rubber gripper behind in the plug.

Perhaps i need recommendations on extension bar too. For info, the plugs on the 2zz sit deeper than 1zz & for further info I use 3/8" ratchet.

All recommendations & advice appreciated.

I use the socket that came with my Halfords advanced set. Plug always sticks nicely and I can just use normal ratchets and extensions

A little silicon will secure the rubber to the socket, this will prevent leaving the rubber on the spark plug.

Also a little washing up liquid (or other type of lub) smeared inside the rubber prior to inserting the plug, will prevent the socket "sticking" on the plug.

I use a standard 16 mm long socket and remove the plug with an extending magnet.  I never liked rubbers in sockets.

I bought a cheap one off eBay before I realised there was on in my Halfords set.

Either way, I just push the rubber firmly into the socket before using it (each time) and it's done the trick.
