Title: Water to air - need some help with the design
Post by: Nvy on February 8, 2019, 09:44
Hello guys,
I do have some questions on the design of my water to air system.

1. I have bought a new upgraded rad. Can i use the old one for the w2a considering that i can make them both fit?
2. What pump to use? Id like to be able to drive the car in the winter sometimes so ideally i want to use antifreeze as a coolant.
3. How many litters should i have in the system? I intent to use some reservoir but no idea how big id need.
4. How to connect the pump into the system? Some ppl connects these to the ac but i know that its not optimal.
5. What kind of hoses to use?
6. General mounting points or/and pics would also help.

For now i have old rad that was on the car and looking for mercedes s65/s600 intercooler i think its going to be enough for around 300 horses and im going with a small turbo - 2554r.

Any input is appreciated!

Gt2554 won't make 300bhp.
Many people have used the fiat cinquecento rad and eBay charge cooler with good results.
The more fluid in the system the better.
Get a proper bosch charge cooler pump brushless is better but more costly

Jaguar XJR-Supercharged Water pumps work well, and can be had for little money

Brand new bosch pumps are around 120.
Think they are oem on jag and Ford among others.

Ill get Bosch pump and the coolant im thinking for 5-6 litters. Any idra how to power the pump?

Turns out that the w2a cooler from merc is quite expensive and will work up to 250-260 hp so im thinking of getting the 300 $$ 600 hp kit from frozen boost or just the cooler and the exchanger. The merc cooler is around 250 $ and i cant justify the price.

Excuse me but you need to rethink your turbo choice it won't make 300.

I think my charge cooler is like this one

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-Universal-Air-Water-Intercooler-Chargecooler-l3-5-Inlet-Track-Drag-Car/132887068837?hash=item1ef0afc0a5:g:RGIAAOSwstxVECkF

Which I am hoping will support 300+ although I am using it with a rotrex which runs cool in comparison to a turbo.

I have never said my turbo will make 300 hp but that the intercooler will support it. I just want to build everything with a bit more left in it so i can build the engine and add bigger turbo later down the line.

Ill have a look on your cooler but if google is used it shows some coolers from aliexpress that looks quite the same and are dirt cheap.

English is not my native so i cant express my thoughts very good. Ali has coolers for 80 dollars.
