Title: Slow puncture
Post by: StuC on February 16, 2019, 14:58
Found I had a slow puncture yesterday in the car park. NSF. Took it to my local place and they have informed me I have a dent, which is preventing the tyre fully sealing. Boo.  :protest:

Got the spare fitted, whilst I work out what to do. I have a recommendation of Wheels UK in Coventry. I am hoping they can fix it.
Anyone got any experience of dented wheels being made true again?

Cannot answer your direct question.
But i wonder if they would charge more than just getting another from dean.

How big is the dent?  If not too big, the rim can be ground on the inside.  Hammering it out cold is iffy... heat helps, but ruins the finish.

Yep a wheel specialist is what you need.

fingers crossed.

Bah, not good. D'you think dent could be result of pothole/poor road surface? If there were any memorable pothole crashes could you raise with council maybe?

@Carolyn (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=22891) dent is small area is about 2" wide. You can feel it reasonably easily. I reckon the inner bead has been pushed inwards 2-3mm. I'll see if I can get a piccy of it.

The tyre place they could cold hammer it, but they wanted my consent as they identified the wheel could break. I'd rather wait a bit and see if the specialist thinks it's a going concern. Apparently they use rollers to get it true?!? Not heard of that before. I will chat to them on Monday hopefully.

I have had the wheels on the car for over 6 years and covered 60k+ miles on them. I do think they have done well. I also feel that they are due a refurb. She just looks a bit sad with one dull yellow space saver on her. :(

Just wonder if your tyre fitter might do you an inner tube whilst you decide what to do.....

lil bit of kerb rash on the front face. Some on the rear too.
Dent is between the 2 lines at 12 o'clock.
Noticed today that there is also some bubbling on the rear. Not as bad as stock wheels though.

@1979scotte (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=20268)  and yes silly tarty 17s but I love how they look. On and off Banana. :D

Made my way over to Wheels UK this morning to get them to assess the damage. They were confident that they could fix it... without hammers!!

Prices were £45 for the repair or £25 for the repair with a £65 refurb cost. So £90 all in for this wheel. I'll see how this wheel turns out before committing to the others! This one is the worst of the set anyway. Picking up the wheel on Friday. :)

The unit set up was pretty basic from the outside and the showroom much the same. Took a couple of piccies whilst I was there.

Are they a small concern?
Did you ask for a cash price?

Newly straightened and refurbished tarty wheel. :) :) :)

Really happy with the result. Just need to drive home and get it fitted now.

Good service, great communication. Will be having the other 3 done when I have saved up £195!! Hopefully that will be before DD!!

Yeah, they finished it last night. Didn't have time to put the tyre on when I arrived minutes after they had opened!

In fairness there were about 15 other full sets of wheels, also without tyres! They would have had a busy morning!

They even asked which corner mine had come from, as I had a directional tyre on. Nice attention to detail. :)

looks the puppies privates in the pic.

if you are happy thats all that matters. One of those things, Could you have got it done cheaper? Maybe. Would it have been as good? Maybe not.
There are times it just pays to have done right and done once.
