Title: Brittle breastplate clips
Post by: Snelbaard on February 23, 2019, 09:55
Recently I took off the stock breastplate on the underside of my car, and time had taken its toll on the strength of the three plastic clips on it. As soon as I took the plate off, several of the clips shattered. I contacted my local Toyota dealership for replacements, but they were unable to figure out a parts number for the three plastic clips. I reckon some here must have had a similar experience to what I had, and I hope you can tell me if replacement parts are available and if so, where.

Try vehicleclips.co.uk you might have to get creative in your search but they might have them.
Another reference tool I use is toyodiy.com which gives you part numbers IF you know the name of the part it's listed as, sometimes you have to use the Yank description.

Thanks for the tip! After some research I was able to find the parts numbers. For those who might be interested:

Black C-clip: 87124-17030
White U-clip: 88718-17360
Black U-clip: 88718-13010

Otherwise I consider my question resolved and the thread can be closed

It might be handy if you update the thread with the supplier you find best value for said parts, again just for future reference.

In the end I just ordered the parts through my local Toyota dealership, a search of online suppliers yielded no lower prices.

As it turned out, two out of three types of clips were no longer available through my dealership, nor through any other source I could find. So I have taken it upon myself to CAD draw the clips so I can 3D print them. That way the'll probably also be cheaper than the real article. If any of you are ever after one of these brittle clips, please PM me so I can send you a printed clip or a CAD file so you can do it yourself.

I don't suppose a zip tie would do??

Well I'm sure it would. But it just so happens that I've been machining a bunch of Corky-esque breastplates with holes specifically meant for these clips. So it would be a waste if I were to just pop a zip tie through those, although they would undoubtedly do the trick.

Oh really? Care to post pics and prices? Are they compatible with the TTE or mcgullian braces? West are they made of?

Well I was holding back on discussing those things as they aren't quite finished yet. As you can see in the picture, they have yet to be welded and anodized. I've tried to make as exact a copy of the Corky's breastplate as I could (save some minor details) so compatabilty with other bracing should be similar as well. They are made of 6mm thick water cut aluminium plate with some profiles welded to it. I am making 10 to start with, and I hope to share prices asap.
