Title: Question for those who've fitted their own exhaust
Post by: Anonymous on March 25, 2005, 19:48
My H&S exhaust has finally arrived   s:D :D s:D  and I'm going to be fitting it over the weekend. One thing I was wondering is, do I need to put some vac grease (I think this is the correct term!) on the joint to the cat or does it not require it due to it being a flexi joint?

Also, is it obvious where to attach the extra bit that the driver-side pipe is supported from?  Thanks for any advice   s:D :D s:D

Tom,

Not sure about the grease thing, but if you can hang on until tomorrow morning I'll have a look at mine and see if I can spot anything that might help. If any other H&S peeps can give an explanation beforehand, so much the better.

Roger

PS Its greaaaaaaaaaaaat  s:lol:  s:lol:

Tom, just to confirm, no support, and the pipe is as solid as a rock.

Down pipe comes straight out of the exhaust. The tip is welded(?) onto a 90 degreee bent pipe, which is <EDIT> exhaust clamped </EDIT> to the downpipe.

Not quite sure in what state of construction yours was when it arrived, but according to Ian, you can undo the <EDIT> exhaust clamp </EDIT> and move the pipe up and down to get the correct spacing between the tip and the bumper. There is however no front/back or side/side adjustment.

Roger - thanks for that.  When I posted the first message, I didn't actually have the exhaust, as they had tried to deliver it on Thursday whilst no-one was in, but I knew I'd be picking it up this morning, if you see what I mean!

I had read about one of the dual exit exhausts having an extra support for the extra pipe, possibly the Team Moon, and just assumed that this one would have too.  I was also wondering about how best to attach the pipes, so it's interesting that they've just used jubilee clips.  I know exhaust places use special clamp thingies for this type of job, so I was thinking of trying to get a couple of those, but I guess jubilee clips would do just as well.

I'm going to take the bumper and everything off this afternoon, then try to get the exhaust swapped over and the bumper back on tomorrow, taking my time so as not to make a mess of anything!  A big thanks for your help and for organising the group buy in the first place   s:) :) s:)

Note to anybody taking information from this - tip pipes are held on by exhaust clamps, not jubilee clips.

Tom, you have PM, if you haven't already seen it.

Sorry, mate
