Title: Hello and what 4 tyres the same?
Post by: MVV on April 15, 2019, 18:49
Hello Everyone, I'm new here and have a low miles December 05 car which I really love. It's a keeper and I plan to do it up with your help so I look forward to membership. I've put a stainless manifold on to de-cat it, plan to renew the headlights and eventually get leather seats and door cards. Before that I'm going to get a bodyshop to find and fix anything, however small, they can find.

However I am not made of money so all of that will take a year or so. The first bit of help I need is my car is on Bridgestone Potenzas all round. I need to replace all 4 but they are no longer made in both sizes my car needs. I like the tyres and would have just replaced them. What is the best alternative that allows me to fit 4 the same?

Toyo T1-R suit the MR2 well and are very budget friendly.
Uniroyal Rainsport 3 are another great option.

The new Yokohama Fleva are getting good reviews so far.

Any other issues, do ask!

Avon ZV7 are also a great choice.

As long as you have the same brand tyres on all four corners with the correct size tyres it's winning

Don't forget a full geo once done also  :)

Wow! Thanks everyone. I had the same question on the other forum for a week and only just today got one reply.

Look up tyre test reports on the Hankook Ventus Prime 3.  Cheaper alternative to the Yoko's. (16" are expensive)
Toyo's & Rainsport's have soft sidewalls.  The latter spoiled the responsiveness of an MX - 5 for me.

Falken ze914 are a good budget option without soft sidewalls.

Best choice for summer tyres are Yokohama AD08R but they're costly and are getting replaced by a newer model.

I must admit I like the Falkens ze914's, never had Falken tyres before. Great tyres for me. :)

Agreed....I liked them on a car I had, but when it came to buying last year I couldn't get one of the sizes, so research revealed the Hankooks.

Hello and welcome.
Great to hear you want to do what is needed.

And tyres are one of the best investments you can make.

I have had the falkens and very happy with and would have them again.
The yokos are just better. So they should be given the extra wine tokens they cost.
On a a daily, the rainsport is my go to tyre.
Cannot comment on the avons and others.

Got the Avon ZV7s on mine in stock sizes, very happy.

Also running on Avons (ZZ5) on a Cooper S Countryman with a lot more grunt and they're great on that too.

Welcome along.  We are a great group but normally offer enough opinions to cover all bases.  I have Toyos on mine and am happy, but that is compared to the Chinese ditch finders it came with.

I wouldn't go for Toyo T1Rs... sidewalls too soft. Tyres last so long on these cars that going for expensive tyres really doesn't add much cost in the long run. (assuming it's not a daily - and even then they'll last way over 10000 miles)

Hello everyone, went for the Yokohama AD08R in the end and I'm very pleased. In the end just under £400 fitted. Almost lost the car on the way home in the wet cos the monkeys had put 35 psi in the back!

Thanks for all your help.

What about the front pressures?

Excellent choice.

The monkeys do that a lot.
26 and 32 and all is well

I run 29 front sometimes when I want to cheat a bit and get a bit of understeer. 29/31.

27/31 seems to work for me

Not only on our 2's, had new tyres on my daily a week or so ago and all four were over inflated. I suppose it could be misplaced generosity, I wasn't charged extra for the extra pressure!
